A variety of Area Council grants are available through the four episcopal areas.
Trent-Durham
Trent-Durham Area Council designates a portion of its budget for grants for parish ministry in the areas of:
- congregational development
- Christian education
- youth ministry
- outreach
Grant requests are considered twice a year (September and December). These grants are normally under $10,000. Each application is reviewed by a member of the Area Council and presented with a recommendation to the council. All applications should include consultation with your regional dean.
York-Credit Valley
York-Credit Valley Area Council annually awards funding in two categories:
- FaithWorks Grants to support parish and community outreach projects
- Ministry Development Grants for new ministry programs. Area Council grant awards are capped at $2,000.
How to apply
Download both the Grant Application Guidance and the Grant Application Form and complete the latter fully, following the instructions. The application form is the same for each of the above categories of Area Council funding. You need to use this form to make an application.
Submit the completed and signed application form, together with any supporting information, to the Bishop’s Office by email as PDF. If your application is incomplete, we’ll return it to you so you can re-submit it by the application deadline. The Area Council will be receiving grant applications up until October 31, 2023.
Area grant feedback
If your project receives funding, you’ll need to submit a written report to Area Council (care of the Bishop’s Office) within 12 months of receiving the grant.
Download and use the York-Credit Valley Area Grant Feedback Report Form to shape your report.
Note: If your parish or organization has previously received a grant, we can’t consider any further grants until we’ve received and reviewed your feedback.

FaithWorks Grants will not exceed $5,000 in one year.
Natural Church Development grant
Deadline: ongoing
In 2010, Area Council approved a motion to give a grant to parishes participating in Natural Church Development. Parishes will receive $250 for the first survey and $150 for the second survey. The money for this grant is taken from the Ministry Development Grant funds in the area budget.
To apply, send an email or letter to Sue Willoughby at swilloughby@toronto.anglican.ca, stating the date the parish completed the first or second survey.
Leadership Development Grant
Deadline: ongoing
In 2016, Area Council voted to devote $2,500 to a new budget category called “Leadership Development.” Individuals can apply for up to $2,500 in any given year.
For applications or further information, contact Sue Willoughby at swilloughby@toronto.anglican.ca or 416-363-6021.
Building inspection grant
Deadline: ongoing
Every year, Area Council designates $3,500 in the area budget to help parishes with the compulsory building inspection. (For more details, see the Church Property page.) Because they’re expensive, it’s good to be aware of when your parish will be next up for inspection, and budget accordingly.
Parishes may apply for a $500 grant toward the cost of this inspection. To apply, send an email to Sue Willoughby at swilloughby@toronto.anglican.ca, stating that you’ve had the inspection done on your church building and rectory (if applicable).
Bursary grant
Deadline: May 19, 2023
Every year, Area Council designates money for bursary grants to support youth of our area entering into post-secondary education.
Application forms, along with an explanation letter, are sent out each spring to every parish in York-Scarborough. An email is sent to every parish in February or March, encouraging incumbents and priests-in-charge to share the information with qualified students in their parishes.
