“Jesus said to them, ‘Children, you have no fish, have you?’ They answered him, ‘No.’ He said to them, ‘Cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some.’ So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in because there were so many fish.” (John 21)

 

Cast the Net has reached into every deanery and parish as we discern how to meet the challenges and opportunities of this time. In 2025, parishes are being asked to embrace one or more of the 20 Calls.

Living the Calls

The Netminders, a group of clergy, laity and diocesan staff, have come together to tend to Cast the Net and help parishes engage with its 20 Calls.

The calls encourage Anglicans in all parts of the diocese to renew their spiritual lives, to seek justice for all, to support faithful and fruitful ministry, and to live and work as the body of Christ, each connected to the whole and each valued for their unique gifts.

You can choose calls that you’re already involved in or take up new ones – whatever best suits your capacity, context and vision.

Final report

This 96-page report is a response by the Cast the Net steering committee to everything it heard during intensive consultations with over 1,000 clergy and laity.

It provides an in-depth look at what Anglicans in the Diocese are thinking, feeling and hoping for as the Church emerges from the pandemic years.

Vision & calls to the Diocese

A Vision Statement and Calls to the Diocese emerged in response to the listening process, endorsed by Diocesan Synod in November 2023.

Followers of Jesus, inspired by the Holy Spirit, serve the world God loves!

This vision statement is at once aspirational and inspirational, invitational and imperative. It describes who we believe we are at our best, and what we try to be more and more every day, with God’s help. It welcomes others to join us on this journey, and it sends us into the world, determined to live into these words, with faith, in action.

Clergy & lay consultations

Since the fall of 2022, clergy and lay people have participated in consultations and listening sessions. Below you’ll find a series of reports, reflections and analyses from these sessions.

Dr. Sarah Johnson is the director of Anglican Studies and professor of Liturgy and Pastoral Theology at St. Paul University. She is a practical theologian whose research explores Christian worship in the context of North America’s changing religious landscape. We are fortunate to benefit from her expertise.
